Eight Constitutions Colonotonia

Colonotonia is a constitution in which large intestines and lungs are proportionally strong while gallbladder and liver are proportionally weak.

Foods that support the large intestine and lung generally include flour, beef, beans and nuts. Such foods can overstimulate the strong organs (large intestine and lungs). The strong organs have a regulatory role over the weaker organs; thus, overactivity of these strong organs can subsequently lead to further suppression of their antagonists, the weaker organs (gallbladder and liver).

For example, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic indigestion, anxiety, arthritis, bacterial and viral infections can arise when strong organs—lung and liver—become overactive. If an unhealthy state persists in this constitution, the patient may be prone to Parkinson’s disease, Myasthenia gravis, rheumatism, liver cirrhosis, and lupus.

Individuals with Colonotonia tend to have strong perspectives and are clearly opinionated. Despite their strong biases, they are sociable and outgoing; they are very adaptable to their environments and take initiative. However, sometimes their strong opinions may be received as stubborn.

The above are not absolute characteristics, but general tendencies of Colonotonia.

Due to constitutionally weak liver function, drug use and meat consumption cause many side effects and diseases. Avoiding beef, poultry, pork, lamb, (most meats except ocean fish and seafood), unnecessary drugs, and herbal foods is imperative. Eating white rice, green leafy vegetables, seafood, and ocean fish as staple foods is beneficial. When there are symptoms of indigestion in the lower abdomen, frequent anger, or muscle weakness, it is a symptom of an overactive and strong large intestine. Following a strict constitutional dietary regimen is crucial. Excessive sunbathing and sweating can overwhelm the weak liver and cause chronic fatigue.
